Therapist New Paltz | Dr. Mark Balaban
Some patterns are hard to shift on your own. Despite your best efforts, familiar patterns keep resurfacing, leaving you frustrated, stuck, or unsure how to move forward. Therapy offers a space to understand what’s really happening, implement change, and move towards a better future.
My approach to therapy is focused on you as a unique individual, taking into account your strengths, challenges, and specific circumstances. My understanding of people comes through a psychodynamic therapy lens, and we collaboratively create a plan for meaningful growth and lasting change. This often involves working to understand the underlying patterns and experiences that shape how you think, feel, and relate to others. As a therapist, I focus on helping you gain deeper insight into these processes, creating the foundation for meaningful, lasting change.
In addition, I draw from a wide range of therapeutic approaches in my New Paltz practice, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Humanistic approaches. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all. Rather than applying a fixed method, I tailor the work to your individual needs, goals, and strengths.
I bring careful attention, curiosity, and respect to each session. You will be met as a whole person, with your own history, perspective, and voice—not reduced to a diagnosis or a set of symptoms.
I welcome you to reach out for a complimentary consultation to learn more about setting up therapy sessions in-person at my New Paltz Office or through online teletherapy.
